Scrabble Tile Values
What Is a Scrabble Word Finder?
A Scrabble word finder takes the tiles on your rack and finds every valid word you can play, ranked by point value. Unlike a general unscrambler, this tool defaults to the TWL (Tournament Word List) used in North American Scrabble, ensuring every result is a legal play.
How to Find the Best Scrabble Word
- Enter all tiles from your rack (up to 7 letters).
- Use ? for each blank tile you hold.
- Optionally filter by starting or ending letter to target a board position.
- Browse results grouped by length — longer words score more.
- Compare point values shown next to each word.
Understanding Scrabble Tile Values
Each letter tile carries a point value from 0 (blank) to 10 (Q, Z). High-value letters like Q (10), Z (10), J (8), and X (8) can dramatically swing a game when played on premium squares. The tile reference chart above the results shows every letter's base value at a glance.
Tips for Higher Scores
- Play 7-letter words (bingos) for a 50-point bonus.
- Land high-value tiles on Double or Triple Letter squares.
- Target Double and Triple Word squares whenever possible.
- Keep a balanced rack — avoid holding too many vowels or consonants.
- Learn two-letter words; they unlock many parallel plays.
Frequently Asked Questions
What dictionary does this use?
By default the finder uses TWL (Tournament Word List), the standard for North American Scrabble competitions. You can switch to SOWPODS for international play using the dictionary filter.
Can I use it for Words With Friends?
Yes — the tool works for WWF too. The WWF dictionary differs slightly from TWL, so switch to the "All" dictionary option to cast the widest net.
What is a blank tile worth?
A blank tile scores 0 points regardless of which letter it represents. Its value lies in flexibility — it can substitute for any letter to complete a high-scoring word.
Does the tool account for board position?
The finder shows base tile scores, not board scores. To calculate the true score for a specific board position, multiply by any Double or Triple Letter/Word squares the tiles land on.
